Spooky Season Just Clocked In

Evansville, the Fall Festival is taking its final lap down Franklin Street, and spooky season showed up early to watch. Saturday is the big send-off: a Pet Parade at 10, the Main Parade at 4:30, and one last night of fried everything before the rides go quiet. Meanwhile the rest of the Tri-State quietly turned into a haunted house. Holiday World flipped to Halloween mode, New Harmony is running ghost walks, Jasper has Frankenstein on the radio, and Newburgh is serving Edgar Allan Poe with dinner.

And then there's Owensboro, where grown adults in actual knight armor will cage fight on Saturday night. We are not making this up. Add Steep Canyon Rangers at the Bluegrass Hall of Fame, marching bands at North all day, and a giant apple pie at AppleFest, and the weekend is officially overbooked. Also, 340 of you are deep in a debate over Evansville's most slept-on business, and the vote is still open just below. Let's get into it.

Evansville's Most Slept-On Spot

340 comments and counting. We asked which local business deserves WAY more attention, and you came in hot for pie shops, birria trucks, bookstores, and a 5&10 in Boonville. The race isn't over. Drop your pick (and tag them) before Sunday, and we'll reveal the most-mentioned spots in next week's Buzz.

Fall Fest's Grand Finale: Paws, Floats & One Last Funnel Cake
FESTIVAL
Fall Fest's Grand Finale: Paws, Floats & One Last Funnel Cake
Thu–Sat, Oct 8–10 · West Franklin Street · Free admission

The 105th West Side Nut Club Fall Festival goes out loud. Amateur Hour Finals hit Friday at 7, then Saturday stacks the Pet Parade at 10 AM, the Main Parade (roughly 100 units, rain or shine) at 4:30 PM, and That's What She Said! closing the stage 8–10 PM. Rides run ’til 10:30. Your arteries filed a formal complaint. Denied. Booth numbers, parking, and the ride money math all live in our Ultimate Fall Fest Guide.

🍕 Bonus Buzz: Claim your Franklin Street curb early for the 4:30 parade. When the last float rolls by, Ray Leo's at Lamasco kicks off Fall Brawl at 7, so your night already has a second act.

Armored MMA: Knights. In a Cage. In Owensboro.
FIGHT NIGHT
Armored MMA: Knights. In a Cage. In Owensboro.
Sat, Oct 10 · Doors 6 PM, fights 7 PM · Owensboro Sportscenter · $30–$125

Full-contact fighting in authentic knight armor, inside a cage, one quick bridge into Kentucky. This is the weirdest sentence we've typed all year, and you can buy tickets to it. Think Renaissance Faire meets pay-per-view. If you've ever watched a jousting scene and thought “needs more grappling,” your night has arrived.

🍕 Bonus Buzz: Seats run $30 to $125, so decide early how close you want to be to swinging steel. Front row sounds great right up until a gauntlet hits the cage.

Holiday World Goes Full Halloween
HALLOWEEN
Holiday World Goes Full Halloween
Fri 5–10 PM · Sat 11 AM–10 PM · Sun 11 AM–6 PM · Holiday World, Santa Claus

Friday Night Live kicks it off with after-dark rides, then Happy Halloween Weekends brings the Dino Corn Maze, hayrides, and a trick-or-treat trail for kids 12 and under. Saturday ends with a drone show, weather permitting. A town literally named Santa Claus throwing a Halloween party is peak Southern Indiana, and we would not change a thing.

🍕 Bonus Buzz: Friday Night Live is $25 if you buy at least a day ahead, so don't wing it at the gate. Saturday crew: stay past dark for the drone show.

Steep Canyon Rangers at the Bluegrass Hall
CONCERT
Steep Canyon Rangers at the Bluegrass Hall
Fri, Oct 9 · Doors 6 PM, show 7 PM · Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame & Museum, Owensboro · $35–$42

Bluegrass royalty, playing inside the actual Hall of Fame. The Steep Canyon Rangers bring banjo, fiddle, and harmonies tight enough to iron a shirt to downtown Owensboro. It's the kind of room where a mandolin solo gets a standing ovation. Even if your playlist is 90% true-crime podcasts, this is the one that converts you.

🍕 Bonus Buzz: Caught the bug? The same hall throws a free Open Jam Sunday 1:30–4:30. Bring a fiddle, or just your best foot-tap and spectate.

🛰️ ON OUR RADAR

Local Business Spotlight.

Nearby spots we'd actually send a friend to.

Bring your heat tolerance: Bad Randy's Hot Chicken & BBQ Lounge serves Nashville-style hot chicken in eight heat levels, plus crab fries, chicken biscuits, and a serious bourbon bench, right on West Franklin Street. Fall Fest stroll, meet your spicy reward.
Time travel, Evansville style: Angel Mounds State Historic Site turns a casual fall walk into a deep dive on Mississippian life, with an interpretive center, recreated palisade walls, and a loop trail of about 1.4 miles. Smarter steps, crunchier leaves.
Spooky-season reading list: Your Brother's Bookstore is the cozy indie from brothers Sam and Adam Morris, heavy on genre fiction, manga, and local authors, now in a new First Avenue spot. Walk in for one book, leave with a stack and a staff pick you'll be up ’til 2 AM finishing.

Seth is a mixed-breed pup born May 8, 2026, weighing about 25 pounds, with the cutest little white spot on his forehead, like somebody pressed the “extra sweet” button and held it down. His mama is a 20-pound terrier mix, and Seth has known nothing but love and attention since day one. It shows.

He's living in a foster home with other dogs and absolutely loves his furry roommates, but he's just as happy parked by his people. Chew toy, ball chase, cuddle session, then some respectable quiet time. Honestly a better weekend plan than most of us have.

He's mostly house trained when kept on a schedule (relatable). Think he's your guy? Apply at ITVrescue.org 💙

🍕 Bonus Buzz: Seth is equal parts playful and cuddly, so stock up on chew toys before he finds your shoes. He gets along great with other dogs, which makes him an easy add to a pack that already has a ball hog.

🐝 THE FINAL BUZZ
🎺 Everybody's in the Parade

This whole weekend is one long parade. Pets strutting down Franklin Street at 10 AM. Roughly 100 units rolling toward St. Joseph Avenue at 4:30. Marching bands stepping off at North High from 8:15 ’til the awards. Knights clanking into a cage in Owensboro. Even the ghosts in New Harmony are walking a set route.

So pick your spot on the curb, Evansville. Wave at the floats, scream for the band kids, cheer for whatever dog shows up in a cape, and save a little energy for the trick-or-treat trail in Santa Claus. Fall Fest only gets one last lap this year, and you're in it. See you on the route. Let's march. Let's munch. Let's parade.
