Okay, Evansville. This one's personal.

You know the feeling. The coffee's brewing, the to-do list is already three items deep, and somewhere between "pack lunches" and "answer emails" you catch yourself wondering when your life turned into a stack of boxes you check instead of a thing you actually live. If that landed a little too hard on a random Tuesday, keep reading.

Full disclosure before we hype a single page: the author, Ruth Easterling, is family. She's my sister-in-law. We don't usually put books on the board around here, but when somebody in the Buzz family writes a whole book about the exact quiet burnout half of us are running on, yeah, we're gonna tell you about it.

Let's get into it.

NEW BOOK
Beyond the Checklist
Mistakes That Sideswipe Your Journey to a Life of Purpose
By Ruth Easterling · Out now on Amazon (Kindle)

Here's the pitch, and it hits closer than you'd like: you did everything right. You hit the goals. You earned the title. You checked every box the world told you mattered, and it still feels like something's missing. Ruth's whole argument is that this isn't a productivity problem, it's a purpose problem, and no amount of color-coding your calendar is going to fix it.

It's written for leaders, entrepreneurs, and anyone deep in a season of transition who's busy, productive, responsible, and quietly running on autopilot. Less "hustle harder" pep talk, more permission slip to stop and ask what you actually want.

WHY YOU SHOULD READ IT
🐝  You've hit the goals and still feel weirdly hollow (and you're tired of pretending you don't).
🐝  You want the burnout named and diagnosed, not another motivational fridge magnet.
🐝  You lead a team, run a thing, or are mid pivot and stuck in reaction mode.
🐝  You like the idea of trading the endless checklist for a little actual intention.
📖 Bonus Buzz
It's a Kindle read, so chapter one is a lunch-break away. Knock it out with the coffee you were already going to drink instead of doom-scrolling. Same caffeine, better outcome.

🎤 MEET THE AUTHOR
So, who's Ruth?
Ruth Easterling with her book Beyond the Checklist

Ruth Easterling is a leadership coach and keynote speaker with about three decades of getting people un-stuck. Through her practice, Leadership Solutions, she works with leaders and organizations on values alignment and DISC-based coaching, and she has a whole keynote, "From Autopilot to Intention," built on the exact idea that powers this book: busy is not the same as on-purpose.

Her actual day job is the stuff this book is made of: leadership seminars, accountability groups, 8-week courses, quarterly book clubs, and her "Empowering Women to Lead" sessions. Same through-line every time. Trade the treadmill for a direction.

Are we biased? Obviously. She's family. But you don't spend 30 years helping people find clarity and then fake it in print. This is that work, minus the plane ticket to a retreat. We're proud to put it in front of you.

⭐ THE RECEIPTS
Don't just take our (biased) word.
People who've actually worked with Ruth, in their own words:
"She is gifted at getting to the heart of the matter to unlock growth and potential."
- Sarah T.

"A human and relatable leader who helps you ask the real questions."
- Jonathan A.

"If you're wondering whether to join a training, do it. You won't regret it."
- Kate S.
(Real reviews of Ruth's coaching and speaking, not paid book blurbs. We keep it honest around here.)

📚 WAIT, IT GETS BETTER
Read it with the author.

Here's something you don't get from most authors: Ruth will actually sit down and talk it through with you. Grab the book, round up a few friends (or fly solo), and she'll host a book-group discussion, with the author herself, about what's in it.

She's based in Seattle, but that's what video calls are for. Your group can be anywhere and still get the real conversation. Yes, that includes right here in Evansville.

🐝 THE FINAL BUZZ
Put down the pen. Pick up the book.

Here's the thing about a checklist: it will always hand you one more box. Check it, and there's another right behind it. Check that one, and the list quietly refills overnight. It never runs out, and it never once asks whether any of it made you happy. Ruth's whole point is that you're allowed to look up from the list and ask a better question.

So do the one box that actually counts this week. Grab the book. Then close the notebook for a night. Stop checking. Start choosing. Start living.

Spread the buzz.
Send this to the friend who keeps saying they're "too busy" and then wonders why they're tired. New in the Tri-State every week.
